The Houston Bayou City Shag-Dance Club was founded on May 15, 2008. We founded this new shag dance club for the purpose of bringing yet another popular form of swing dance to Houston’s already rich and diverse community of dancing.

    The original leading individuals who were involved in founding this group are Charles Soileau - Operations, Instructor & Dance Director and Al Liskey - Music & Social Director, Karen King instruction assistant and Judy Archer Instructor.

    Our goal is to learn, teach, dance the shag and build a close knit community of shaggers who are devoted to dancing and making new friends and making certain that anyone who wants to become a shagger... feels welcome and encouraged.

    We are currently teaching shag at the SSQQ Dance Studio in Houston, Texas. SSQQ is a dance studio that has been a part of Houston for the past 25 years, and we are proud to part of the diverse collection of dancing groups that house themselves under the SSQQ umbrella.

   We are currently looking for what we refer to as a Shag House, which is a club or venue where we can teach shag, hold dances, eat good food, listen to great shag music and just hangout. If you know of a place that will let us play our style of shag music and provide a congregation night for shag please let us know.
